In late February/early March 2020, we were in the process of finalizing our Carmichael Golf Club away trip for 2020, to the Graeagle area. Then COVID hit – and our 2020 season quickly changed to ‘casual’ local events to keep the CGC afloat. In 2021, we were able to resume our regular CGC event schedule – but early season COVID spikes and uncertainty over vaccine requirements and availability left enough uncertainty that trying to schedule an away trip didn’t make sense. So the goal for 2022 was to complete the return to normalcy to our CGC schedule with a full schedule, including the away trip. Since we had completed a couple of deposits in Graeagle in 2020, and the courses were able/willing to keep those deposits on the books for a couple of years, the need to close the loop by having our 2022 away trip in Graeagle was a pretty easy decision.

This was our 7th away trip to the Graeagle area (previously 2000, 2005, 2008, 2011, 2014, 2017). For as difficult as these courses continue to play, our modifications to the Tee Box layouts did result in the lowest over-par scoring average at both Whitehawk Ranch (24.0 over par – the high being 29.5 over par in 2008) and Plumas Pines (29.2 over par – the high being 36.7 over par in 2011).

The other ‘perk’ to the Graeagle trip is our ability to rent a house to be able to host a BBQ after the second day of play – it’s almost impossible to do this in Monterey, with Reno not as difficult, but with other distractions and a wider area to bring folks together. After Plumas Pines on July 15, all 21 of our players (along with some family and friends) relaxed on a 17th Fairway patio and enjoyed the lovely Summer evening!

The 3-Day Flight winners on this trip were as follows:

1st: Shawn Campbell, net 227 (by 2 strokes over Mike A. Johnson)
2nd: Diane Hoffman, net 220 (by 5 strokes over Sheila Johnson)
