Day 1 Thur – July 14, 2022

Whitehawk Ranch Golf Club

Of the three courses we play in Graeagle, Whitehawk Ranch is by far the nicest venue – it is younger, and was planned more as a resort course than a local, public course. The practice facilities are first-rate – a great venue to start a multi-day golf trip! In playing Whitehawk, you alternate between the open valley setting (with expansive vistas) and winding your way through tree-lined, water-feature holes. On this day, we got beautiful weather – a little warmer than the area standard but compared to what we left behind in the Valley, quite comfortable. The course played the easiest of the 3 courses on this trip – being the first day, everyone was still fresh. The invasion of grasshoppers on the valley holes 2, 3, and 11 was something we had never experienced here in the close to 20 years we have been coming to this course.

The course played fairly consistently throughout – the overall scoring average for the group playing just a bit more difficult on the front nine (12.1 over par vs. 11.9 over par). Prior to the trip, we did an extensive hole-by-hole review of each course based on data from the previous away trips – and set up the tee box combinations to again give us the best chance to challenge (but not beat up) the golfers within each flight.

Four (4) of the 21 players shot scores less than net par 71, with 1 other player shooting net par. Three (3) players shot scores of net 80 or higher.

The Flight winners on this day were as follows:
1st: Shawn Campbell, net 71 (by 1 stroke over Erick Ammons and Jay Jackson)
2nd: Debbie Rankin, net 66 (by 2 strokes over Stella Garin, Judy Hales & Sheila Johnson)
