2020 – A Little Explanation
By early March 2020, we were aware of initial worldwide concerns over a new virus strain, COVID-19. At that time, the Carmichael Golf Club (CGC) had a full 2020 schedule finalized and ready to go starting with our season-opening event at Teal Bend on March 21, 2020.
In the week prior to our event at Teal Bend, all hell broke loose – and very quickly businesses started to close, including golf courses. We initially delayed our first 2 events – but within a short period of time, it was quite obvious that things weren’t going to be the same for an extended period of time.
By early April, we decided that we weren’t going to be able to do our events (with many touchpoints around the course throughout a day) the way we had done them previously. We, therefore, decided to cancel our ‘official’ events (with scoring and prizes) for 2020.
In the meantime, golf courses (being an outdoor, open-air business with natural separation from large groups) found a way to quickly re-open and become one of the first true outlets from the lockdowns and social distancing required from COVID-19.
The CGC quickly turned our attention to a limited schedule for 2020 that allowed us to maintain contact with our members and hopefully giving us a ‘launching pad’ for returning to our regular operations, beginning again in 2021. In early June 2020, we modified our 2020 schedule as follows, with casual events (no scoring or prizes) just to get our members together.
On separate ‘fact sheet’ pages for each event in 2020, we want to acknowledge and list the players who played in each event. The support from our members (and guests) who came out to these events was greatly appreciated!
We also turned the corner entering 2021 with every intent to have a full schedule of CGC events (with scoring and prizes – with some modifications to meet some of the continuing issues from COVID-19 that have not allowed a complete return to ‘normal’).
Initial membership renewal for 2021 (along with some new members), kept our membership at (or near) the level we began 2020 – for that we are truly grateful, and feel that our efforts in 2020 helped to keep the group connected.
