Diamond Oaks Golf Course

After nine (9) consecutive days of triple-digit temperatures in the Sacramento area, including many daily record highs and an all-time daily high of 115 degrees, the weather broke just in time for our event at Diamond Oaks in Roseville on September 10 – an overcast day, with a slight muggy feel, but pleasant temperatures that only reached the upper 80’s.
Diamond Oaks is not a regular stop for the CGC anymore – the course has been gradually toughened up over the years to the point where it is no longer a gentle play. Greens have gradually been contoured and over the past few years, a well-defined fairway cut (with lush, grabby rough) has made finding fairways a premium! While the Men’s Tee sets are not terribly long, the Women’s Tee sets are one of the longest in the area (with many long carries to even reach the fairway) - the course discourages many of our Women members from even signing up for an event at Diamond Oaks.
On this day the rough was even tougher than usual – we heard from a Diamond Oaks member prior to play that their rough mower had been out of service for a couple of weeks, making it even thicker than normal. The front nine played about a stroke and a half harder than the back nine (mostly from the canyon carry 6th hole, which played as the toughest Par 5 to date in 2022 CGC events).
Three (3) of the 20 players shot a score less than net par 72 (net par 73 for Women).
Three (3) players shot scores of net 80 or higher.
The Flight winners on this day were as follows:
1st: Bruce Hoffman, net 68 (by 5 strokes over Gary Phillips)
2nd: Alan Rodriguez, net 67 (by 4 strokes over Mike Agrippino)
