Castle Oaks Golf Club

Castle Oaks opened up in the early 1990’s, at a time when there were few golf course options in the Sacramento area, and quickly became a favorite venue for the Carmichael Golf Club (CGC). It’s also where we first experienced the value of working with the golf course for the mutual benefit of the course and the CGC. At that time, with so few courses available, the courses held the hammer – contracts were strictly enforced, and late modifications for group size changes and/or no-shows didn’t go well for Golf groups like ours. Hal, the original General Manager for Castle Oaks, went out of his way to work with the CGC – and helped form the blueprint for golf outing collaborations that is more the standard today.
The golf course itself was also very unique in the Sacramento area in the 1990s – the course routing, challenges, and collection of holes stood out at that time. The course remains a challenging test – with difficult holes both to start and finish your round, and a gentle stretch in the middle of the back nine if your game can survive up to that point.
After a couple of windy days leading up to this event, we were met with lighter breezes and mid-80s temperatures. Knowing that Summer is coming, a pleasant day to golf!!
Three (3) of the 20 players shot scores less than net par (71 for Men, 72 for Women),
with 1 other player shooting net par. Six (6) players shot scores of net 80 or higher.
The Flight winners on this day were as follows:
1st: Mike A. Johnson, net 65 (by 5 strokes over John McLaughlin)
2nd: Lora Wade, net 68 (by 5 strokes over Gary Borge)
3rd: Debbie Rankin, net 77 (by 1 stroke over Barbara Edgar and Judy Hales) net 67 (by 4 strokes over Sherry Aceituno)
