Teal Bend Golf Course

The Carmichael Golf Club (CGC) opened its 33rd season with our event at Teal Bend on March 19, 2022. After over 2 months with no measurable rain in Sacramento leading up to our season opener, the forecasts for March 19 were not favorable. Due to the lack of recent rains, however, we figured to give it a go – as we knew the course would not be saturated and unlikely to have a cart path only restriction if it did rain. While the day was overcast, and the clouds ominous at times, we made it through the day with only brief spits of precipitation. With little in the way of wind, the 60 degree temperatures were comfortable for mid-March.
Teal Bend has become the CGC season opener in recent years – the natural drainage on this course allows us to comfortably plan on playing early in the season, regardless of how the Winter season has progressed with rainfall. The course has kept much of its character since opening in the late 1990s (corridored fairways – wide, but penal if you
miss them), with the greens (specifically through pin locations) seemingly getting more difficult through the years.
The first couple of events each year always brings out the disparity between those who were able to golf throughout the Winter months and those who haven’t touched their clubs much since the previous October/November. Scoring on this day was difficult – with only 2 of the 28 players shooting scores less than net par 72 (another 2 players shot net par 72). Nine (9) players shot scores of net 80 or higher.
The Flight winners on this day were as follows:
1st: Marcos Silva, net 72 (by 1 stroke over Mike A. Johnson)
2nd: Errol Thomas, net 73 (by 2 strokes over Mike Aceituno)
3rd: Rhane Thomas, net 69 (by 2 strokes over Perla Ramos)
