Haggin Oaks Golf Course
MacKenzie Course

In our Summer tour of the local courses where we can get early tee times to beat the heat, Saturday, June 25 brought us to Haggin Oaks – a course that has re-invented itself a few times through the years. Always considered the ‘original jewel’ of golf courses in Sacramento (in large part due to the Alister MacKenzie connection), the course has had its’ share of hard times, not quite living up to the standard. With the latest iteration now about 15 years old, it is a quality course (with consistently good conditions), that is good to have regularly on the Carmichael Golf Club (CGC) schedule.

On this day, we got the warmest weather to date for a CGC event in 2022 – and the 8:03 am first tee time, with our last group finishing shortly after 2:00 pm, was greatly appreciated by all. Other than the building heat, it was a good day to golf! The course played fairly consistently throughout – the overall scoring average for the group playing just a bit more difficult on the front nine (48.9 vs. 47.6). We also utilized various tee box combinations for the four flights, giving us the best chance to challenge (but not beat up) the golfers within each flight.

Three (3) of the 31 players shot scores less than net par 72, with 4 other players
shooting net par. Eight (8) players shot scores of net 80 or higher.
The Flight winners on this day were as follows:
1st: Marcos Silva, net 72 (by 2 strokes over Shawn Campbell, Mark Cavallaro, Jerry Fat)
2nd: Mike Aceituno, net 70 (by 1 stroke over Alan Rankin)
3rd: Rick Givans, net 72 (won tie-breaker over Richard Cisneros)
4th: Judi Ferreira, net 67 (by 5 strokes over Joe Jenkins)
