Bing Maloney Golf Course

Bing Maloney is the classic ‘old school’ course in the Sacramento area – plenty of length, tree-lined, everything right in front of you, and not a lot of hazards. After some lean times 10-15 years ago, the course has recovered nicely – and has become an affordable and dependable mainstay on the Carmichael Golf Club (CGC) schedule.
After a windy Spring, and a recent first taste of the coming heat of Summer (with another hot blast forecast for later this coming week), we caught a true weather break on this day – with a calm, overcast day that for most of the morning was near perfect, with only a little mugginess near the end of the round even forcing you to think about the weather.
With not a lot of players on the golf course prior to our 8:30A first group, the pace of play for weekend golf was also quite pleasant – it appeared that our first group finished at right around 4 hours 20 minutes, with a nice flow for the following groups. The course played gently early on – but surprisingly showed some teeth as the round progressed. The group also displayed some "on the fly" resiliency – as a spot fire off of the 11th fairway early in our round forced the group to ‘modify’ the Par 5 11th into a 300-320 yard Par 4 to avoid the fire remnants and fire crews!
Two (2) of the 22 players shot scores less than net par (71 on this day), with 2 other
players shooting net par. Four (4) players shot scores of net 80 or higher.
The Flight winners on this day were as follows:
1st: Marcos Silva, net 70 (by 4 strokes over Mike Aceituno)
2nd: Diane Hoffman, net 71 (by 1 stroke over Jay Jackson)
3rd: Sherry Aceituno, net 67 (by 4 strokes over Lora Wade)
