Mather Golf Club

The Carmichael Golf Club (CGC) began to settle into our 2022 season, with our first 3-week gap between events, when we played at Mather on April 30, 2022.

Over the years we have developed a good rapport with Mather – prior to the pandemic, we tagged along to their Monday Country Club events, offering our members a chance to play many of the local Country Clubs. Mather also worked with us on scheduling this event – modifying our date to work around the course’s Spring aeration. This may sound like a ‘no-brainer’ – but we will tell you that many courses are not as forthcoming with their aeration schedules, and how it may affect your event. This was the first of 2 events we will have at Mather in 2022 (the second on October 8).

Mather was in good shape on this day, with the greens in full recovery from the late March aeration. The course has minimal hazards (though the temporary machinery in the 17th fairway was an interesting touch!), and depends on the trees and subtle elevation changes as its major defenses. The best weather day for golf so far this year – with temperatures in the high 70’s to low 80’s and light breezes.

Six (6) of the 30 players shot scores less than net par 72 (with 3 others shooting net par 72). Six (6) players shot scores of net 80 or higher. It was nice to reconnect with Jay Jackson, who played as a guest – Jay was a CGC member from 2009-15 before leaving the area.

The Flight winners on this day were as follows:
1st: Marcos Silva, net 71 (by 4 strokes over Shawn Campbell)
2nd: Bruce Hoffman, net 70 (won tie-breaker over Mike Aceituno)
3rd: Diane Hoffman, net 69 (by 3 strokes over Richard Cisneros and Rhonda Johnson)
4th: Judi Ferreira, net 70 (by 1 stroke over Lora Wade)
